Circulus believe that there is nothing better than psychedelic medieval folk music for procuring a good harvest. Which could mean that, while watching this South London band perform, you should expect it to start raining – or perhaps feel the grass grow beneath your feet. Or both.
Circulus, who in the ten years since their debut EP ‘Giantism’ have had more than twenty different members at one time or another, perform their progressive folk rock using a number of instruments you may not recognise, including the crumhorn and rauschpfeife.
Lead by vocalist Michael Tyack, Circulus’ mixture of modern and medieval instruments and influences creates a dizzy, distinctly British folk sound. As well as recording three full-length albums, the group were notably asked by Mojo magazine to cover ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ for the 40th anniversary of ‘Sgt. Pepper’s’ tribute album.
