We are delighted to announce that the annual Moseley Folk Festival will be returning for the seventh successive year!

Returning to the tranquil setting of Moseley Park on 31st August & 1st, 2nd September 2012, the Moseley Folk Festival offers an inner city Shangri-la bringing together people from all ages and backgrounds to witness folk legends playing alongside their contemporaries.

In 2011, Badly Drawn Boy, Tinariwen & Billy Bragg took the reigns as the sun shined down on the most successful Moseley Folk Festival to date. They were joined by the likes of Villagers, The Bees, Stornoway, Junip (Feat. Jose Gonzalez), Gruff Rhys, Scott Matthews, Willy Mason plus many more.

We are currently working hard on bringing another eclectic folk inspired line up which will delight the regular sell out crowd and announcements will be made within the coming months.

The line ups for both stages will be announced gradually over the coming months but we can already guarantee some amazing artists for 2012! We’ll also be keeping you updated with further events happening in the build up to the festival!

Tickets for Moseley Folk Festival 2012 will be going on sale shortly so keep your keep checking back for further details!

To avoid booking fees there will also be the option to send in a postal form which is now available from the website. Alternatively, you can visit one of our outlets listed on our site to pick up the tickets in person.

Spiro are their own people, commendably operating in their own sphere and at their own pace. A contemporary acoustic ensemble that first came together through Bristol’s folk sessions scene, their first album for Real World Records, Lightbox is an extraordinarily stirring record.

Recorded over four days at Real World Studios in Box, live and without overdubs, largely produced by Simon Emmerson (the chief architect behind the Afro Celt Sound System and The Imagined Village projects), it showcases a highly imaginative and highly disciplined group with a sound that is unified but never uniform.

All four members, all four instruments, pull in the same direction, creating music that’s intricate yet so full of momentum and echoing – at various points – the work of Steve Reich, Michael Nyman and the Penguin Café Orchestra, but, kindred spirits aside, this is the music of Spiro – undeniably English, undeniably theirs.

“Fantastic….you feel your heart lift a few inches above its normal resting place” **** The Word

“Magnificent….rich, moving and cunningly wrought” ***** Songlines

“Fabulous…intriguing and exciting” fRoots

“An oddly compelling, strangely soulful music of mind and body” ****Independent

Circulus

Circulus are a psychedelic folk/progressive rock band from South London, England, founded by vocalist Michael Tyack.

The band uses a mix of modern and medieval instruments, such as the lute, cittern, crumhorn and rauschpfeife, along with the moog synthesizer, bass and electric guitars. Tyack claims to believe in fairies and pixies, and they have been known to play their live shows with the audience sitting on the floor.

The Burdock Band

The Burdock Band dances are simple yet fun, designed for all to join in. No previous experience required, just be prepared to enjoy yourselves! Let yourselves swing to their pounding rhythms as you dance the Strip the Willow Extravaganza, the Human Cannonball, and the Bear Went Over the Mountain. As probably one of the busiest ceilidh bands in the UK, this is a rare opportunity to experience the Burdock magic. A great evening’s entertainment is assured this is one not to be missed!

Folk collective Boat to Row are a 5 piece who couple a rare sense of genuine ease in each other’s musical company, with an honest and engaging sound. The band boasts a many-hued spectrum of lyrical themes, gliding from young love and tender friendships to outdoor sauntering and the ebullience of the working classes.

This Birmingham outfit is by no means lacking in versatility with nimble guitar melodies that cushion a rich set of boy-girl harmonies, tripping glockenspiel, swooning violin and ricocheting drum beats. No stage is too big or small, having had the joy of playing festivals such as Truck, 2000 Trees, Wood and the honor of headlining the Lunar Stage at this years Moseley Folk Festival. This year has seen the group busy releasing their debut single ‘A Boat to Row to Row to You’ on Cheltenham indie label istartedthefire records, where they intend to stay for their new E.P, ‘Grass Market’. As well as releasing records and playing festivals the group having been supporting the likes of Willy Mason, The Vaccines, Johnny Flynn and Slow Club with their warm sound.

My First Tooth

Comprised of two girls and two boys from Northampton, My First Tooth deliver a punch to the gut and a kiss on the cheek with their brand of indie- folk/alt-country. A string of singles and debut album ‘Territories’ (released recently on Alcopop! Records) have garnered considerable praise from critics, including The Word who said “A full-on blast of raucous folk-pop that’s all hoedown and no slowdown”, and The Fly who called them”…seriously impressive…”. Near constant touring has seen them hone their frenzied, harmony-laden, instrument-swapping live appearances into a barnstorming show that NME described as “unmissable”. They sing about ships, wild animals, friendships and mountains. They sing together loudly. They sing together quietly. They play like their lives depend on it.

Twenty-four year old Joe Summers is a true folk troubadour, devoid of any pretense, a diamond in the rough of todays saturated music scenes. With his feet firmly placed in the roots of the music he adores, Summers constructs his narratives and melodies like the greats
