Megan Henwood
Megan Henwood was exposed to folk music at a very young age when watching her mum sing at the nearby Nettlebed Folk Club. She developed an ear for a tune while listening to the likes of Queen and grew up finding inspiration in the songs of Bill Withers, Tracy Chapman, and Bob Dylan. Her first performance was at the Henley Festival, where she performed one song aged just nine years old!Age eighteen she spent six months travelling and busking around Venice, Thailand, India, and Malaysia. She also went to Nepal and there she fell in love with the country. She’s returned twice since to record with some of the country’s leading musicians, and she’s sent back profits from her latest single to help the ‘Child Action Nepal’ charity.
Henwood’s diverse experiences have had a profound effect on her song writing. Her powerful, poignant and witty lyrics are woven around timeless pop melodies, and led to her and her brother winning the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. Her debut album ‘Making Waves’ is on its way, and well worth a listen, as are the clips from it already on her MySpace.
