Official Charity Partner of Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival
Rooted in the heart of South Birmingham, Moseley Community Development Trust (MCDT) is a community-owned, community-led organisation dedicated to making Moseley a better place to live, work, and thrive. Established in 2001 by local residents and organisations including the Moseley Society, Moseley Forum, and Ashram Moseley Housing Association, MCDT is a registered charity with a mission to deliver practical, sustainable solutions to local challenges. MCDT aims to serve the Moseley neighbourhood by focusing on social, economic, and environmental wellbeing through local partnerships and projects.
A vibrant, welcoming community space, the Moseley Hive is where ideas blossom, friendships form, and people come together. From family stay-and-play sessions and drop-ins to lunchtime dance clubs, Moseley Hive offers a wide variety of weekly activities for all ages.
The space is also available to hire for events, including birthday parties, baby showers, community workshops, and theatre performances—offering flexibility, friendliness, and a fantastic local venue for creativity and celebration.
Right in the heart of Moseley, the Moseley Exchange is a buzzing enterprise hub offering coworking, meeting rooms and office space. Whether you’re a freelancer, social entrepreneur, or small business owner, you’ll find all the resources you need—from printing and recycling facilities to networking opportunities and local event information. It’s more than just a workplace—it’s a place to connect and grow.
Launched in 2014 with the support of a government grant, the Moseley Alternative Giving Campaign (MAGC) was developed as a largely volunteer-led, compassionate, practical alternative to street giving—ensuring that donations are used to create real, lasting change for individuals experiencing homelessness or hardship.
At the centre of the campaign is a small grants programme, funded by generous public donations and managed by Moseley Community Development Trust. With minimal overheads, nearly every penny goes directly to those in need, helping to fund essentials like emergency accommodation, food, clothing, and recovery support.
In addition to financial assistance, MAGC also runs regular drop-in sessions, creating a welcoming, judgement-free space where individuals can access practical advice, emotional support, and guidance from local services. MAGC continues to prove that small acts of giving, when carefully channelled, can have a powerful impact—offering people not just short-term relief, but a genuine pathway to stability and support.
In response to the full-scale war in Ukraine in 2022, the Moseley community stepped up to launch Moseley for Ukraine—a largely volunteer-led project delivering practical aid, emotional support, and resettlement assistance to Ukrainians arriving in Birmingham.
Initially focused on collecting donations of essentials for those in conflict zones, the project quickly evolved to support the Homes for Ukraine programme—connecting British hosts with Ukrainian guests and helping newcomers settle into life in the UK.
Today, Moseley for Ukraine is run by two Ukrainian women who themselves arrived through the programme. They lead weekly drop-in sessions and work closely with local organisations to provide a broad range of support.
From employment advice and mental health workshops to ESOL classes and social events, Moseley for Ukraine remains a vital hub of community, resilience, and hope for Ukrainians across Birmingham.
As a charity that puts community at the centre of everything it does, Moseley Community Development Trust continues to collaborate with residents, businesses, and local groups to nurture a thriving, inclusive, and dynamic neighbourhood.
